Salary:  £20,716 - £23,281 per annum
Hours:  20 hours per week (Flexibility to work evenings & weekends)

Background to the project:

Anawim is an independent charity founded upon the Catholic ethos of its two founding partners, Father Hudson’s Society and Our Lady of Charity whose Trustees work with Anawim to develop the work, their joint vision and ethos to inspire the project. Anawim seeks to support women who are vulnerable due to poverty, homelessness, abuse, rape, addictions, and may be drawn into prostitution and/or offending as a consequence. It recognises prostitution as exploitation of women. All staff, whether working in a paid or voluntary capacity, are expected to respect and work to the core values of respecting others, valuing all, and belief in the possibility of a life lived to the full.

Anawim was made aware of particular issues with street based prostitution and sexual exploitation off street in the Washwood Heath area so have been meeting up with The Dolphin Centre, St John’s House and the Alum Rock Residents Forum to discuss a solution. We have secured funding to create a Drop-in where women can receive support in a safe place and to act as a base for assertive outreach at times when maximum women will be reached including evenings and weekends. This work forms part of a wider research project into the issue of prevalent sexual exploitation in Washwood Heath and the surrounding areas and is the beginning of a larger piece of work for which we will be seeking funding.

To provide effective support to women who may be experiencing sexual exploitation, domestic violence, and/or are at risk of homelessness or entering the criminal justice system. Be a welcoming contact for women coming into the Dolphin Centre from the local community, and engage with women out in the community who are not engaging with services, understanding their needs and offering support.
