Hana was referred to us for an offence pertaining to cruelty to and neglect of a child. She was immediately suspended by her workplace pending investigation – from a role she had occupied for over 10 years. In that time, she had built many positive relationships.
Whilst waiting for the outcome of the investigation, she became unmotivated, anxious about the future and at times struggled with feelings of hopelessness. She continued to attend our meetings and we talked about perhaps her joining a course for a number of reasons; to fill up some time during the day which she was struggling with, perhaps pick up a new skill and meet new people and to also help to increase her confidence and self-esteem, both which had taken a dip during this time. Unfortunately, not long after this, my client was informed that she had been officially terminated from her employment.
Whilst periodically job hunting (when she felt she could muster the motivation to do so, which was something she struggled with), Hana said she was keen to do a course which was parenting focused. She felt that would be appropriate in light of the offence she had been referred to us for. I suggested the Parenting course which whilst no longer run as a group session, could still be delivered on a one-to-one basis.
I’m pleased to say that we have nearly finished the course and Hana has been thoroughly engaged and shown keen interest throughout. In addition to this she’s recently started work as a part time cleaner and after a lot of back and forth has joined a local gym! After her first visit she said she felt rejuvenated and motivated and was pleased she had finally taken that first step.
She is also enjoying her job as it not only helps to bring in an additional income, but also provides her with a sense of achievement, something she has not felt since having to leave her last position.
