Jane was referred to New Chance on a voluntary basis, and at the time, was not managing her physical or mental health, had lost contact with support services, and her children had been taken into police protection.
With caseworker support, she was able to re-establish contact with her mental health team, and took her medication consistently for the first time in years. We also supported with social services involvement, and over time the case was closed and she was able to have regular unsupervised contact with her children.
Successful PIP and grant applications allowed to her begin contributing towards debts, and she was able to work with Birmingham City Council to get repairs and adaptations completed in her home.
After building her confidence, she started volunteering at a local charity shop and is enrolling in college in September to obtain her first Maths, English and IT qualifications, as well as looking forward to gaining employment in future. She has made huge progress and is making steps towards a better future for herself and her children.
She told us:
‘Anawim has helped me so much to build trust, bonds, and a positive outlook on life. I feel like I’m really moving forward now. Without Anawim, really I wouldn’t be here today. I felt suicidal and depressed when I started my journey with Anawim. Now I feel happy, supportive, cared about.’
