Sally experienced physical abuse just three days after getting married. Hoping for a fresh start, she moved to the UK with her husband – but sadly, the abuse continued. At seven months pregnant, after another violent incident, she called her midwife for help. With no family or support, she fled to Birmingham and stayed in a refuge.

Now living in an empty flat with her 10-month-old baby, Sally was struggling to afford basic essentials like furniture and white goods. She had no savings and needed urgent support.

Sally came to Anawim’s drop-in service and was welcomed by our team. We listened to her situation, helped her apply for grants, and supported her to access a food bank and toiletries. She felt supported and relieved knowing help was available. Thankfully, Sally is now building a safer, more stable life for herself and her daughter.
